From 30th November 2024, you will need to add an “01” prefix to phone numbers when you send money to mobile wallets in Benin.
Why do I need to add this prefix?
Benin added the “01” prefix to every phone number in Benin. They did this to make make sure that there would be enough numbers available for new mobile phone users in the country.
What should I do when I send to a mobile wallet in Benin?
You'll need to add the the "01" prefix after the country code (+229) when you enter your recipient's mobile number. The rest of the number follows the prefix and remains unchanged.
Example: the number +229 97 00 00 00 would be updated like this: +229 01 97 00 00 00.
