You’re likely here because you received a letter from us about money on your account. We want to issue a refund to return the money to you.
This article explains why you got this letter, how to get your refund, and what to expect next.
This article applies only to customers in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands who received a letter from us by mail.
Why did I get a letter?
You may get a letter if there’s unclaimed money on your account. This can happen if:
- You sent money, but your recipient didn’t pick it up
- We sent you a check, but it wasn’t cashed
Your letter explains why the refund is owed to you.
Is this genuine or a scam?
Yes, this is genuine.
If money wasn’t collected or a check wasn’t cashed, we must contact you and send the money back. The law requires us to do this to keep your money safe.
If you want to confirm your letter is real, call us at 1‑855‑628‑1781.

When will I receive this money?
If we’re mailing you a check, we’ll send it within 30 business days of receiving your completed claim. If you sent money at Walmart, you’ll receive your refund in store.
Why are you contacting me now?
If you signed up for text messages, we notified you within 21 days of the original transfer.
State laws also set deadlines for when we must contact you about unclaimed money. We follow these rules and send refund letters when required.
How long do I have to claim my refund?
Check your letter for the deadline. If you don’t claim your refund by that date, we must send the money to the state listed in your letter.
You can claim the money from the state once it appears on their website. This can take up to six months. The state will give the refund a new reference number. It won’t match the number on your Ria letter.
What if I don’t have ID?
You need a valid government‑issued photo ID to receive your refund. If the refund is owed to a business, the business owner can use their own ID.
What if I’m outside the country?
If you sent money with Ria
- Return your completed form and include your current contact details so we can explain next steps.
Note: We can only mail refund checks within the United States and Canada.
If you sent money at Walmart
- If you can’t visit a Walmart Money Center in the country listed on your letter before the deadline, the money will go to the state. You’ll then need to claim your refund directly from the state.
