Your security is important to us, so we use multi-factor authentication (MFA) and security questions to make it harder for someone else to access your information.
In this article we’ll cover:
Multi-factor authentication and security codes
What is multi-factor authentication?
Multi-factor authentication combines two or more credentials to confirm your identity. This could be a combination of these categories:
- Something you know — username and password
- Something you have — your phone
- Something you are — a scan of your fingerprint or face
For example, you could access your account using your login details and a confirmation code sent to your phone. This tells us that it’s you, and not a bad guy, that is trying to access your account.
How do I use MFA with Ria?
Most countries with the app and website use MFA to verify your identity.
When you go to create an account, we will ask you to create a login (username and password) and add your phone number. From then on, we will send a confirmation code to that phone number during login.
Be aware, MFA works using time limits. Input the code as quickly as possible because they expire after a few minutes. If your code expires, you'll have to wait 30 seconds before requesting a new one. Always enter the most recent code you've received.
If you fail to enter the right code 3 consecutive times, you'll need to wait 30 minutes before requesting a new one.

I didn’t receive the code that was supposed to be sent. What now?
These texts will typically arrive within seconds to your phone, but may take up to a few minutes. If you didn’t receive a text, you can request another code by tapping Didn’t receive the code? and then Send code.
I'm unable to receive texts. Can you call me instead?
You are able to change your security method from a text to a call. Tap Didn’t receive the code? and then Receive a call instead.
Security questions
If you create an account in the app (and you live in the United States or Canada), you will need to pick and answer three security questions as an alternative to MFA. Pick questions and answers that only you would know. If found out by someone else, they will need to be updated.

Verification issues
Can I skip the verification process?
No, we use this to protect both you and your money.
I accidentally locked my account. What now?
After three unsuccessful attempts to verify your identity, your account will be locked. Good news: you should be able to gain access again. Learn the next steps here:
