There are three key pieces of information that senders must have in order to send a bank deposit transfer to a recipient in Hong Kong. They are the recipient's:

• Bank Code: this is a 3-digit code is a unique identifier for each bank in Hong Kong. Bank codes can also be called clearing codes or routing codes. 
• Branch Code: as well as a unique bank code. each branch of that bank has it's own 3-digit branch code, identifying the branch where the account was opened. Recipients can find their branch code on their debit card - it is the first 3 numbers on the card.
• Account Number: depending on the bank, account numbers in Hong Kong are between 6 and 9 digits long.

Usually banks include the 3-digit Branch Code before the Account Number when they provide customers with their bank details. In this example: 812-852456-888, the first three digits (812) are the Branch Code and the final 9 numbers (852456-888) are the Account Number.

Bank codes are important because they’re used along with the branch code and account number to guide local payments to the correct account quickly. If you use the wrong bank code, your payment maybe delayed, delayed or sent to the wrong account.

How to enter a recipient's bank details when sending money to Hong Kong:

You will need your recipient's Account Number, including the Branch Code and the Bank Code to send money to someone in Hong Kong. Here's how to enter this information when providing your recipient's details:

1. Enter the Branch Code and Account Number in the Account Number field, starting with the 3-digit Branch Code followed by the Account number which will be 6-9 digits long, depending on the recipient's bank (i.e. XXX-XXXXXX)
   
   
2. In the Routing Code field, enter the recipient's Bank Code
